Rebirthing? With the death of a child in Colorado during a 'rebirthing' session, some are wondering what rebirthing actually is. Here are a few snippets from the Web that help to give an idea of the desired outcome of rebirthing. By quoting various sources here, we are not implying that any of these authors have acted, or are acting unethically. We are just examining the practice. From a description of a book on rebirthing: Rebirthing : Freedom from Your Past by Deike Begg "Rebirthing is a powerful technique that involves deep-breathing your way back to your physical birth in this lifetime. In many cases, it also involves returning to past life memories. These old memories are very often the source of problems in this lifetime, and releasing them can effect radical transformations in the patient." Spiritual Breathing by Leonard Orr "Rebirthing as the Maha Yoga is the direct intuitive experience of God through the breath. Connecting the inhale to the exhale in a relaxed rhythm brings about an awareness of a direct mental perception of spirit, and emotional feeling of spirit, and a physical sensation of the actual life energy, which is Almighty God flowing through the flesh. "As new yoga, rebirthing is not a discipline, it is an inspiration. It is not teaching a person how to breathe, it is the intuitive and gentle act of learning how to breathe from the breath itself. It is connecting the inhale with the exhale in a relaxed, intuitive rhythm until the inner breath, which is the Spirit and source of breath itself is merged with air - the outer breath. Rebirthing merges spirit and matter in a simple, scientific method of spiritual breathing that is definately one of the highest and most direct forms of Yoga-science of life or union with God. "A rebirther is a breathing guide who has practiced enough to initiate another person into this awareness. It normally takes a rebirther about five or ten minutes to guide a person into a rhythm that is free and relaxed enough to perceive God in mind and body, but once this connection is made, it is desirable to surrender to the Spirit of the human breath until a completed energy cycle is experienced which normally takes approximately one hour or more for beginners." Birth - Do You Remember? by Sabina von Wrede "And there is now a growing number a doctors, therapists and health professionals who recognize the importance of birth trauma on individuals and on society and who are doing great work to help people heal the trauma. The Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health, a group of doctors and therapists concerned with birth issues, plays an active role in this, as do Rebirthing professionals everywhere, who were among the first to address the issue of birth trauma, and whose intuitive knowledge and spiritual insights are now being followed by other health care professionals. Rebirthers use a simple breathing technique to access cellular memory and to release past traumas from the body. This includes all kinds of trauma, but especially birth trauma. "If you suspect that you may suffer from suppressed birth trauma, you can now do something about it and reclaim the trapped energy and potential that you gave up at birth. There are appropriate seminars and workshops available, as well as private work that will help people heal."
So, What Do You Think? An Introductory Essay Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again New Testament, John 3:7 "Many people don't think that explanations end with birth into this lifetime. If you believe in reincarnation, present day problems could be related to experiences hundreds or even thousands of years ago. Rebirthers usually don't talk much about reincarnation, and probably have different opinions on the matter. They prefer to put the focus on the present situation, and on your ability to choose what to think and what to do right now, because the present moment is where your power is. One may also claim, that if you experienced something in a past life that still influences you, then that experience will somehow have been re-enacted at your birth into this life. So, from a practical standpoint, it seems more efficient to concentrate on healing the present lifetime. With an aphorism, it could well be, that the most important thing you can learn from the past is – that it's over!" "In the session, focus is given to the world of the "inner child". The connected breathing cycle softens the diaphragm and bridges the heart to the belly, contacting and integrating feelings and memories of the child. Bringing this "inner child" into consciousness helps to reduce its needs being unconsciously projected onto present relationships. It helps us see where we may remain in fear of "parental disapproval" as we struggle to be free and self-motivated. Indeed the environment of our birth may be where our "original sin" of guilt and shame stems from - the feeling of being pushed out or rejected from the "heaven" of the womb and, in the panic and fear, not being able to feel the "fingers of love" holding our inner security as we make this important journey. Rebirthing may heal the effect of the presence of fear or the absence of love at our birth. "Rebirthing is safe and gentle. It allows the body to remember and integrate "disowned" states, it purifies and cleanses the chakra system of the body, it relaxes, and nourishes -and most importantly it can birth one into a new spiritual reality - a place of deeper trust and security. On wider level it may enhance an understanding of our place in this present quantum leap in consciousness on our planet. It is true, that, as we heal our "victim consciousness", we empower ourselves to become a more open and clear channel for the creation of a new world from the truth within." REBIRTHING PLUS with Lynne Jenkins "Rebirthing is one of the fastest growing natural healing modalities available at this time. It is a safe and powerful breathing process that releases tension from the body, freeing it so that you may be your true self and reach your unlimited potential. "The breath is a sublime healer. It is the umbilical cord to the Divine. By using a variety of smoothly connected breaths; energy which may be called prana, chi, ki, or the life force is taken into the body where it dissolves and brings up anything that is unlike itself. When this takes place, blockages that have been holding us back at the psychological, spiritual, or cellular source surface and a deep inner transformation occurs. "Rebirthing focuses on birth and the thoughts or imprints which affected us at that time which guide our life. As a child we received many negative messages from the time of conception through adolescence from well-meaning parents, relatives, teachers, the media, etc. The nine months spent in utero and the next two years until a child learns to set boundaries and say "no" are crucial. Many of our core beliefs about ourself and the world are formed during this period. The natural response to birth or childhood trauma is to create defense mechanisms which go on to become unconscious habitual patterns. As we grow up these patterns can manifest as addictions, self-sabotage, phobias, anxiety attacks, and other self-defeating patterns which cause us to act unconsciously or negatively."
